This painting handle uses two compression springs to bring the sliders together and grip the mini. The head is detachable, so you can print multiple and prepare multiple minis for batch painting, and just swap them out when you finish a layer.
The head attaches to the grip with an M6x4 bolt that is printed on the grip. This also makes it cross-compatible with some Citadel painting handles (possibly discontinued; I can't find them anymore).
Materials
In addition to the filament, you'll need two compressions springs about 17mmx6mm. It should work with a length anywhere from 15-18, but the diameter is less flexible; I wouldn't vary that by more than 0.5mm.
I also recommend having an M6 nut and bolt on hand to ream out the printed threads so they play nice together.
Supports
The two sliders require supports. I recommend touching buildplate only. If your settings are dialed in, you can get it to print without, but the supports are small enough they don't affect the print time or end product significantly.
The grip also requires supports, mainly for the upper platform. That's subject to redesign/remix.
Future Goals
At some point in the future, I'd like to add a hollow compartment in the grip for variable weights to make it more comfortable. I'm also toying with ideas to put a magnet in the head, in case you magnetize your minis. Stay tuned!
