The regular old retraction tower, it simply isn't enough. How many times have you tuned your retraction using a simple retraction tower, only to find your next print look like a spider's nest. This is where my tower comes in.
(The above picture has been done with settings that resulted in a perfect regular retraction tower)
Slicers are smart, sometimes too smart. They will try to put the seam in the corner, yes, but in the case of a straight cylinder, they will simply put the seams in a place that will cause the least stringing, as the nozzle will wipe itself on the perimeters it passes. My retraction tower has corners on the inside edges, making the slicer put the seam in the corners. This causes the worst case scenario for stringing, as the nozzle won't wipe itself on the way to the next point.
The tower is also sloped, so you can diagnose both stringing happening at a small gap, but also stringing over a larger distance.
Print instructions: Use whatever retraction settings you want and print away! Works best with seam position set to aligned in PrusaSlicer (or equivalent setting in other slicers).
