Aeroponics is a relatively unexplored grow method that has the potential to solve a lot of the worlds issues. This design is for people who want to “supercharge” their growing while using up to 90% less water compared to conventional methods to grow. 

This design is technically an improvement over the ones in the picture. I increased these to the max build size of a Prusa printer so this is 25mm larger in diameter. However the ones tested were done on a larger sized printer that could do taller prints so it's about 70mm lower. You can grow a lot in this thing just keep in mind the roots grow FAST, so the smaller the plant the easier your life will be.

The print consists of multiple parts.

  • The “Aero Pot”  itself, it's the main body which has an integrated piping system with pre-made screw holes for the custom nozzles. It also has a drain system that ensures 100% of the water and nutrient solution exists the pot once sprayed. Please use the .3mf file attached for printing because there are smaller threads for the nozzles. You will need variable layer heights which I've pre configured. Once printed with food safe material use a food safe resin to coat the entire outside to make sure all the little filament cracks are filled in. Or find a filament that doesn't leak?? This is designed to be printed only support required is for the drain pipe.
  • The lid that supports the net pot and stops water from coming out.
  • The net pot that screws into the lid and supports your plant.
  • The root catch that I suggest you put at the bottom of the pot to try to prevent root clogs.
  • The nozzles. You will need 4 of these per pot and I suggest you print them at .1mm layer heights. Make extras and consider them consumables. They should last a good 2-3 months though as long as they are undisturbed. I tested these with a food safe pla @ 100% infil.
  • The “sun blockers” I use these to help keep the light off the top of the net pot to stop other growth.
  • The applicator is the tool I use to screw in the nozzles for printing enthusiasts. You can also use a 5mm socket wrench or driver which is actually much easier.

You will also need the following equipment:

This setup will work for an indoor setting or outdoor but expect to shave at LEAST 30% off regular outdoor grow time with a significant increase in yield. The roots will get big fast so choose the plant according to the size. “Tomatoes” are possible you just need to trim the roots frequently, it can be a pain. If it clogs from large roots you can use an air compressor to blow them out which also can be a pain. Hence why the reason only the brave would dare try to print
