Based on the idea from Jason Rose's design to add 3x140mm fans to the front of a 24-bay Supermicro. I've redesigned from the ground up to make it more easily printable and cheaper as they paid $180 for one! For this, I've split it into two parts that are joined with zip ties. These halves are just small enough to print on an ender 3 requiring a 180x220mm build plate area with a 5mm overhang requiring a total 180x225x57mm build volume. As this is a more generic design there are two wire holes on every corner to allow for cables to enter and exit. The mounting system has two zip tie holes integrated to use the handles on the front of the rails. Fans are designed to mount with a bolt long enough to go through your fan and the mounting holes. A cheap pack from your local hardware store should work.

As an update, I've also modified this to be printable on smaller beds with at least 180mm^2 print area. This uses two smaller ends and then 4 140mm or 2 280mm long straight sections. These are joined the same way as the 2-part design with 2 zip ties per joint.

Print settings:

  • Lots of perimeters, I used 3 on a 0.6mm nozzle but would recommend 4+ on a 0.4mm
  • Medium infill of 15-25%
  • Supports only to build plate. The zip tie holes are designed to be printed without support. The screw holes ideally have support as the edges don't have enough contact alone.
  • Brim to help hold down the edges and prevent lift. It's pretty easy to remove on this design as well.
  • If you're printing the 2 part version you may need to tweak settings to have it fit in your build volume. This could include settings like a skirt that can be disabled with a brim.

If you have any requests or comments let me know as that's how the 4/6 part version happened.
