Create safe homes for the birds in your neighborhood using this customizable birdhouse design. The birdhouses shown here are just the right for the sparrows in our yard. But you can use 123D Make to scale it for the birds around you. Choose the linear or radial interlocked panel options. Rotate the base degrees along the X axis to change the overall look. Add more panels to provide more protection from eagles, hawks, owls or other local predators. Spray paint the panels before assembly to match or contrast with other elements of your landscape.

Don't have a lasercutter? Use the enclosed STL to 3D print one.

This is a great gift idea for any nature lover. But if this one doesn't ruffle your feathers, then fly on over to this birdhouse design.

Instructions

The enclosed STL file was created in a modeling app then imported into 123D Make. That was played with to arrange the panels to balance its size, appearance and openness, and to fit in my laser's bed.

The version shown was burned on a Full Spectrum Gen5 Hobby laser cutter from a sheet of 0.177" Baltic Birch plywood.

The material you use will almost certainly have a different thickness. So be sure to adjust the cut width in the 123D Make file and export your own cut plans.Use the enclosed cut plans only if your material stock is also 0.177" (+/- 0.01").

For the linear birdhouse design I drilled a small hole in the top to allow a string to pass through. I tied a bicycle tube set ring at the end of the string on the inside of the birdhouse.
