BACKGROUND: I had a problem where my office chair's armrest kept bumping and resetting my standing desk's Smart Paddle. I was concerned that repeated bumps would break the paddle, so I designed a safety guard to protect the Smart Paddle from unintentional bumps.
DESIGN: There is a Flexible Tab on the Safety Guard that allows the user to press the Smart Paddle's function button. The tab does not need support. The Safety Guard is designed to be screwed to the desk with four (4) #8-3/8" Flat Head Screws
PRINTING: The model is printed in one piece, with support material. I printed it with PLA, 9% gyroid infill, 0.4 mm nozzle, grid support, and Lift Z (Z-Hop). The flexible tab does not need support.
INSTALLATION: When installing the paddle, I recommend temporarily taping the Safety Guard in place so that the front of it is in front of the Smart Paddle, it doesn't block the Paddle's range of motion, and it has the Flexible Tab lined up with the Function Button. If it is placed too far to the right, the Flexible Tab won't properly activate the Function Button. Once it's in place, test the Flexible Tab and Paddle motion. If it works, drill pilot holes and screw in the #8 Flat Head screws, then remove the tape.
