I printed several lightsabers from 3D printing world and the children had a lot of fun with them for two days until they were unfortunately both broken :(. That's why I did the work (way too much xD) and developed a version of this old toy myself! I used Anakin's saber as a template. Just like UnimatrixRed did in his much more detailed display version.

The goal is to get a good 3D printable toy that doesn't break even when used intensively.

I am looking forward to your experience.

Stability: 0,4 & 0,6 mm Nozzle

I have adjusted the designs to ensure a good perimeter count depending on the nozzle size.

(The blades will always fit with both handles)

I used PLA for the handle and PETG for the blade to make it less brittle and let the kids play less carefully :)

Blade Parts
I have prepared 3 different designs to print the blade. The first one just has all the parts close together. With the second, the individual links have more distance from each other and are supported at the bottom, and with the third, you can print them in Vasemode.
Tipp: You can separate the 2 piles and print them sequentially too! See Vasemode)

Power of Skaling :)

You can scale the sword! Make sure to always scale all parts (handle and blade) equally. If you scale smaller, watch out for the perimeters! The smallest I tested was 50% with a 0.4 mm nozzle but the 0.6 mm parts. Blade in the vasemod.

Vase Mode

This Design will give the best surface without a seam.

  1. Split  to objects
  2. Arrange the parts so that they are printed one after the other without colliding with the X-axis.
  3. Activate vase mode and set bottom layers to 0.
  4. Activate sequential printing and adapt the height setting. (Make sure the parts print from the front of the printbed to the back)
  5. Add bottom layers to the tip (right click).
  6. Increase the extrusion width (0,4 mm Nozzle → 0,6 mm / 0,6 mm Nozzle → 0,8 mm)

Trouble Shooting

If the blade locks up too strong you can add some candle wax.

If the blade does not lock up enough you may use some tape :/ :)

Have fun and keep printin! And if you like the design I would be very happy if you share it and give a short feedback!

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Playable, more durable and a different mechanical function of the blade so that it has a large diameter for longer.
