I have made this box to get rid of that messy cables dangling around my Raspberry Pi Zero.

What do you need?

  • PIR sensor (HC-SR501 for example)
  • ws281x LED strip (Neopixel or something similar)
  • digital light sensors / photoresistor
  • Raspberry Pi Zero, microSD card, some jumper wires

In this picture you also can see a DHT22 temperature which you do not need for this project, it is optional and I just have added it to this Pi.

Sometimes at night you want to go to toilet or somewhere else and instead of turning on the light the PIR sensor will detect your movement and turn on a few colorful LEDs which are attached at the back for a short time.

For printing I have used a Ender-3 S1 Pro with PLA+, standard quality (0.2mm layer height), supports (have not tried without yet) and 20% gyroid infill. The lid is very simple and tight but it's working fine.

You would not need any screews, I just added a few holder pins and the tension of the GPIO jumper cables inside will hold everything togeher.

If you are interested in the Python script I have been using you can find it at GitHub: https://github.com/Finn10111/rpi-nightlight
