Designed this model to accept magnets I salvaged from an $15 Ikea HULTARP Magnetic knife rack (double win because these racks are notorious for dulling blades!). Went a little bit further with other design changes/choices that I think will help the community for accepting whatever magnets they have on hand. A magnet blank .STEP file is included for using your own magnets, I recommend placing them 0.6mm below the top surface. This modular approach makes a very clean print-in-place approach with a super flat top (uses two M4 X 16mm bolts). During sharpening I found a micro-fiber cloth was great for keeping the blade secure.

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

  • Tightened tolerances (found the aluminum rod holes too loose)
  • Removable magnet holder - interchangeable for future remixing, flatter surface, and cleaner print-in-place capability
  • Adjustable whetstone holder for accepting varying sizes
  • Revised base layout for less material usage
