If you change material or colors a lot like I do this is like a third hand to hold on to a filament while you are getting the next filament working. I often keep black or blue everyday filament on my printer but switch to a odd color for one print, this holder lets me keep the common color “out” when a short job is running so I can switch back a little easier.

I tried a few different designs with flexible materials but found this “dumb” solution to work best, just a curved hole and is easy to use one handed.

The holes have a generous funnel to make insertions super easy. The bracket easily snap on and off both mk3 frames and mk4 frames. With my wall mounted spool rack I position it in the center but it also works with the stock Prusa spool holder by putting it off to the side.

Please post your makes! I chose to print the top 6mm in Prusa orange and the rest in black. PLA works great but any rigid material should be fine.

I print the holder top (rounded side) down and the bracket on its side. I use two M3 socket head screws 8-18mm lengths should work by cutting their own threads. Using the middle row of screw holes the front of the holder is well behind the frame and out of the way.

The bracket (lower) part is a general, adaptable design intended for multiple uses so it has lots of holes for different mounting options and optional side braces.

Note: I live in a very dry area so leaving PLA, PETG and ASA “out” on a rack works file for me, if you have to put your spools back in a bag all the time this may or may not be as helpful for you.
