Do you have numerous filament ends that just take up space? Do you want to join 2 spools together? Well now you can! Introducing the Slidey Filament Splicer

This is a simple filament splicer i created in Fusion 360. The design includes 2 blocks, one fixed, and one that can slide on a 10mm carbon fiber rod (any 10mm rod works). In between the two parts of a block, a bowden/capricorn tube is used for better gripping precision. The sliding block allows you to keep the filament strands slightly separated while a lighter is used to heat them up. To join the strands, just push together the two blocks, while rotating the sliding block to align the ends.

Bill of materials:

  • 1x 10mm diameter rod, min. 80mm in length (carbon fiber recommended)
  • 2x 20mm length Bowden/Capricorn tube (Capricorn recommended)
  • 6x M3 x 25mm screws
  • 6x M3 nuts
  • glue (to attach one block to the rod and the tube to the blocks)
  • 1x lighter
  • 3x patience
  • 10x happiness

I am always open to suggestions to improve the design, and I'll update it if necessary.

Happy printing!
