Child size sword hilt.  Cut to size construction foam or folded cardboard can be interred into the hilt before the little kings, knights or pirates begin their imaginative swordplay.

Insert sword shown and used to size this design is a spare piece of Brock brand paver base that I would have otherwise thrown away.  Construction foam insulation, or cardboard layers could also be used to make the imaginary sword blade.  I wanted to use a blade material rigid enough to swing around without breaking or bending, but that won't do much harm when another child (or adult) gets in the way, or damage property.

Many other models all had hard or retracting blades that are nice, but could hurt or damage stuff when wielded by a playful child.  Less worry of that in this concept.

I printed the hilt in white PLA, thinking that the 4 year old grandson “pirate to be” will likely do some decorating on his own.

Customization of hilt can be done easily using Prusa Slicer.  STL file is blank, and is what I used to customize my print.

Hilt can be printed without supports, but I painted some in to support the bottom of the insert hole, just in case.

The design was made using TinkerCad in about 20 minutes.

Halloween is coming, so this may help support costuming the young Kings, Knights, Pirates, Spartan Warriors and Ninjas in your household for that night, or in daily play!
