I still had flickering red LEDs lying around and decided to do something with them.

Made a low poly version of the Sign of the Horns, original by Dietz1 on thingiverse.

The intention was to make a hollow version and then add the LED + battery and switch. Because hollowing out was not possible in the software I used, I decided to print with 0% infill and 4 perimeters. The screw holes for the M3 bolts are blind holes in the bottom of the model, the slicing method transformed these into tubes in which the bolts can be attached.

I added a bottom cover that includes a cutout for a switch. As a battery I used 2 AA penlites that were placed in a standard holder. I attached the led to rigid electricity wires so that I could position them easily.

Because the batteryholder was black, I wrapped it in white paper, so it would not shine through so much.

Printing

The hand:

  • Infill 0%, so NO INFILL!
  • Perimeters = 4
  • Top Layers = 4
  • Bottom Layers = 0!
  • Layers height = 0.2
  • Nozzle = 0.4
  • Outher Brim is advised for stability

The Bottom Lid:

  • Infill 30%
  • Perimeters/Top Layers/Bottom Layers what you normaly use..
  • Layers height = 0.2
  • Nozzle = 0.4

I used translucent PLA (brand R3D)

Hardware

Flickering red leds (4 or 5 pieces)

I used these:  Red flickering leds

Battery holder for 2 AA penlites
