I have a Steelcase Amia office chair. It's comfortable and I like it quite a bit, with the exception that occasionally it develops a squeak when I lean back. The solution is to lubricate the tilt mechanism, which is under the seat pan.

Problem is, to remove the seat pan requires something like a gigantic flathead screwdriver to reach in and press a release tab (see photo), and it's a fiddly affair to do it just right. So I designed a simple tool that makes this incredibly easy.

Here's how to use it:

  1. Slide the seat all the way forward using the release lever.
  2. From the back of the chair, insert the tool between the seat and the tilt mechanism with the arrow facing up and pointing towards the front, against the left side (see photo). The notch in the tool allows it to slide over a metal ridge in the mechanism.
  3. Push the tool in until it stops.
  4. Press the release lever again, and slide the seat forward until it's free from the chair.

There's a good chance this tool could work on other models of Steelcase chairs, but I don't have a way to test this.

Print the tool with the notch facing up, and 10-15% infill is sufficient. It'll fit on a Prusa Mini if you rotate it 45 degrees when you slice it.
