I had a Problem that Cardboard Spools triggers the MK4 Load Cell Sensor, because off the high force to unspool the filament.

Cardboard spools naturally have significantly more friction than their plastic counterparts.
This creates an issue with some types of filament holders / spool combinations and the MK4 Load Cell Sensor.
To solve this problem I have created this Friction Reducer / Friction Reduction Tube

  • only approx 6g Filament
  • fully 3D printable
  • easy solution
  • low friction
  • no glue, bearings or tools needed
  • reduces the needed force to unspool the filament
  • with this tube between spool and holder, it is much easier
  • designed for a standard PRUSA spool holder
  • Tube inner diameter is 27mm, so it maybe fits other printers too

  • best results with PETG, PCTG or NYLON Filament
  • or other low friction filament
  • 0,2mm or lower layer height
  • use Vase Mode
  • no bottom / top layer
  • 0,4 or 0,6mm nozzle

V2 - added Grooves to prevent the roll from slipping sideways

04.01.23 → added a 10mm shorter version for enclosures

30.01.24 → added Low-friction insert for Jayo Spools (resize for other spools)
