I wanted a letter opener. I got a little carried away.

I stumbled on @Archie's Loki's Dagger Separated model while looking for said letter opener, and got an idea. I wanted a model that could assemble similarly to how an actual dagger would be assembled. So I made a push-tang on the blade, re-booleaned the cutout in the cross guard and handle, and broke the handle into three sections, two rings, and a pommel, with a decorative pin that also retains the blade in the handle. Considering this isn't an actual blade and is only a prop, and limited print capacities, I used a “push tang” so the blade could be printed in one piece from corner to corner on mu Bambu Lab X1C.

I included a 3mf of my Orca project so you can see my settings and print orientation; I'm OCD about my models being saved in print orientation, but you may still need to “Lay On Face” to get truly flat (sorry, I was lazy and eyeballed the rotations). You will need supports, I printed with rafts because I'm using some old Silk PLA and I wasn't sure how well bed adhesion would be, so use Rafts, Brims, etc, at your own discretion.

I allowed for a 0.03mm tolerance on the parts (or was it Scale 1.03… idr), so it should give a snug fit, but not so snug you break it assembling/disassembling it. Separating into parts also allows for printing in multiple materials/colors, makes painting easier, and makes wrapping the handle (in leather or wire) easier.

I'm considering finishing the blade with paint and graphite powder for a metal finish (think Mandalorian helmet metal effect), painting the cross guard, rings, and pommel gold (because I don't know how to tint the graphite finish to make it look like gold), and wrapping the handle sections in pleather or wire.

Thanks, @Archie, for the models. I'll post a Make in a day or two.

Update: 2:22PM, 7/24/2023

All pieces printed fine except for the hole alignment for the pin. The bottoms of the handle sections needed to be sanded/filed. I trimmed off extra material, then adjusted and updated parts 01, 07, and 08 (Blade, 3rd Handle section, and Pin). It should fit better now, but will still need finishing work to remove material from rafts/supports.

Forgot to put the updated files in print orientation. Updated 3mf file. All should be good now.
