UPDATED!!! see the update log below (Thank you ydkjman S!)
Another (re)mix of CaseStudyno8s (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1598042) and 3DPRINTINGWORLD (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3606120)s designs to create my own Kylo Ren's collapsing lightsaber. So I remodeled the whole thing to fit the collapsible blade. Multiple parts were put together so it is less about gluing and more about layer color changes within the print. The Blade is also remodeled. It has a steeper angle, so it is not so thin at the end which also helped the blade to be longer and broader. Plus the tip curve fits better.
The big help should be the attached 3mf files, those will show you how I meant everything.
Everything should snap or go together pretty simply or snugly enough. Most of the parts need to be glued together - the design is so complex because of the way it is printed mostly supportless, that there is no other way than a superglue.
For the crystal chamber - insert and glue the internals first, then slide the inner silver part over it. Use filament to imitate wiring - 2x30mm of blue filament, 1x approx. 200mm of red filament (both filament diameters 1.75mm). Feel free to play with colors, shaping of wires, etc.
Pommel_knobs are slightly round on one side and you need just 5 of them (because of the belt_clamp).
Belt_clamp is a kind of glue-on scenario, but it will make disassembly of the hilt impossible. I have to find another solution soon in the upcoming update.
Try to follow the way the parts of the lightsaber line up.
I will print it soon to find any tolerance issues (mainly blade, pommel thread), and so on and I will keep the whole thing updated. I am also planning to make the Pommel_electronics part more complex later on - now it is more about trying if everything works well together. DON'T GLUE THE POMMEL_LID ON if you want to exchange the Pommel_electronics in the future.
Download, print, and enjoy! :)
UPDATE V1.1
UPDATE V1.2
UPDATE SIDE BLADE
3D printing settings
Many parts are supportless designs, but some parts require support or even a brim (long tall parts). Follow the 3mf files.
The hilt (PLA):
layer height: 0.125
infill: 10%-20% (20% for small parts)
perimeters: 2
supports: if needed
brim: if needed
ironing: on
The blade (transparent PETG):
layer height: 0.3
extrusion width: 0.6
vase mode: on
supports: off
brim: on, 5mm
The author remixed this model.
It is collapsing lightsaber now…
