This is a replacement “cap” for the rubber end cap for a switch as part of Mazda part KDY0-46-040 (Switch Unit). This is a part found within Mazda 2013 and 2014 CX-5 and 2014 Mazda6.
Please see this Mazda bulletin 05-007/15 for details regarding an issue of the ignition does not turn off the vehicle fully when pressing the Start/Stop button.
This issue is also discussed here in this forum post.
If you order a replacement part from Mazda, it is about $90 CAD. This replacement part does have an improved cap to reduce this problem from occurring. It is about $250 parts & labour for a Mazda technician to replace it.
I followed this video to learn how to take apart the shift lever and access this Switch Unit myself. I then designed and printed this replacement cap. Removed the existing worn down rubber piece and used epoxy glue to attach my 3D printer replacement. Use only a little bit, and wipe the excess.
Total time from taking apart the shifter to reassembly, about 1 hour.
