“These are not the tissues you are looking for” – Obi-Wan Kenobi (in 0 ABY to a Stormtrooper with allergies)
Assembly
The model is stored as a single multi-part STL file in “R2-D2 Tissue Box v8.stl”. Don’t touch it. Just don’t. If you want to see it all in color, use the “R2-D2 Tissue Box v8.3mf” file. But be careful, it is for illustration purposes only. Use it as an assembly guide if you want but don’t bother slicing it. It would involve 1100+ filament changes over three days, at least. It can be printed three times faster as individual pieces.
I assembled the model with 5-min epoxy glue.
Once done, find a short piece of silky shiny copper filament to add in the two holes of each foot. That’s 4 pieces of filament in total. Maybe 4+ inches of filament will do.
Printing
BODY – If you have a MK3S+ with MMU2S, you can print the body in Prusament PETG Signal White and Prusament PETG Black using the file “R2-D2 Tissue Box v4 - Body - 0.2mm PETG_White_1 PETG_Black_5 MK3SMMU2S 1d4h54m.gcode”. If you do not have a MMU2S, fear not, just get to the 3MF file “R2-D2 Tissue Box v4 - Body.3mf” and re-slice it. With the latest Prusa Slicer, you can introduce a filament change. It will be easy.
TOP – Print the top “R2-D2 Top Grey 0.2mm PLA MK3SMMU2S 10h40m.gcode” in Prusament Gravity Grey PLA. If you want to use something else, re-slice the 3MF file called “R2-D2 Top Grey.3mf”.
EYEBALL – Print the eyeball with the “R2-D2 Top Box Eye Ball Black 0.2mm PETG MK3SMMU2S 11m.gcode” in Prusament Black PETG. If you want to use something else, re-slice the 3MF file called “R2-D2 Top Box Eye Ball Black.3mf”.
RED EYE – Print the red eye with the “R2-D2 Eye Red 0.2mm PETG MK3SMMU2S 2m.gcode” in Prusament Carmine Red Transparent PETG. If you want to use something else, re-slice the 3MF file called “R2-D2 Eye Red.3mf”
SMALL PARTS BLUE – Print the small blue parts with the “R2-D2 Tissue Box Small Parts - Blue 0.2mm PLA MK3SMMU2S 1h13m.gcode” file. I could not match the color with Prusaments. I ended up using the DO3D Silk Sapphire Blue PLA Satin. The 3MF file is “R2-D2 Tissue Box Small Parts - Blue.3mf”
SMALL PARTS GREY – Print the small grey parts with the “R2-D2 Small Parts - Grey 0.2mm PLA MK3SMMU2S 1h4m.gcode” file. The 3MF file is “R2-D2 Small Parts - Grey.3mf”
EYE INSIDE BLACK – Print the inside of the projector eye with the “R2-D2 Eye Inside Black 0.2mm PETG MK3SMMU2S 8m.gcode” file in PETG. I think it should be black. Or maybe translucent. The 3MF file is “R2-D2 Eye Inside Black.3mf”.
FRONT DECO RIGHT ARM – Since I am symmetry-challenged, I did not realize that the right arm deco needed to be a symmetrical version of the left arm’s decoration. So, print the “R2-D2 Arm Front Deco Right Arm Blue_0.2mm_PLA_MK3SMMU2S_3m.gcode” in blue PLA. The 3MF file is “R2-D2 Arm Front Deco Right Arm Blue.3mf” if you want to re-slice it.
Last, but not least, add the two pieces of “cabling” on each side. A simple piece of shinny bent copper filament going from the holes in the foot to the holes in the side of the box will do.
The whole thing weighs 500 grams or so.
Han shot first.
