So you spent a big portion of day to assemble an IKEA PAX closet, and then a while later you knocked out the rear plate by trying to fit something to big into it. It can happen to the greatest people.

Instead of moving the closet from the wall and hammer the nails in it again (while risking it that it will happen again in the future), I made these mounts to fix it and make it better.

How does it work?

When your closet is too big too move and too close to the wall, as for me it's impossible to push the plate back from the backside. That's why I made threes holes in the mount:

  • First mount the biggest hole to the side of the closet with one of the bigger IKEA screws you still have left from the last assembling adventure
  • Then take a long screw and put it into one of the two holes left
    • Use duck tape to tape it to the plate and pull it towards you
    • Screw the long screw in, but leave it a bit sticking out, so you can pull the long screw towards you
    • Then use a smaller screw for the second hole, while pulling the longer one
    • Replace the long screw with a smaller one
    • Optionally if you have enough room behind the closet you can also leave it with the one long screw, but I had cables running behind it that I reorder from time to time and I don't want them to get stuck. Also two screws is stronger than one, as the plate is nothing more than compressed cardboard.

Printing

  • Layer height at will, depending on the cosmetics you are looking for
  • Print it on the side will make it sturdier
  • I used PLA, don't use matte PLA as it is more breakable in my experience
  • PETG is even better
