The mute uses a combination of gears with threaded shafts to clamp down around the bell of the trumpet. The adjustable clamp boxes can be slid over to attach the trumpet and then slid back and secured using the center gear. There's left hand threads for one gear, rod, and threaded nut so that center gear can be used to tighten both sides. threaded shafts should be bonded to their respective gear. Has space for cork at the top to prevent scratching the inside of the bell/
