Each top/bottom pair holds up to 11x standard TTRPG dice. To stack more cases, just add a middle piece. 

All parts take 8x3mm round magnets (similar to these) with a pretty tight tolerance for a snug press-fit that combines with a dab of CA glue to hold them firmly in place. These have been put through their paces being tossed into bags and bounced around quite a bit without ever having any issues with unintentional separation, even when I produced a somewhat ridiculously tall stack, holding way too many sets of dice (2020/21 included a real “dice goblin” phase for me, among other things; don't judge).

These are designed to fit together pretty closely to prevent wobble or accidental separation. If you're going to mix/match types of filament or using different printers/slicers/etc. you may want to do some dimensional tests first to ensure that there's not a significant difference between them--I did have some minor fitment issues that required slight sanding when I tried mixing several different PLA/PETG/SLA resin prints. My tests combining similar materials never resulted in any issues.

Top/bottom parts intended to be oriented with the flat on the build plate. For the middle piece, orient the same way (with the bottom down), and use build plate supports--you may want to test your supports first to ensure clean removal.

If you want to make it quieter or nicer-looking, there's room in the design to accommodate thin felt or other finishing material inside the dice slots--I'd love to see what you come up with!

For logos, simply find a relatively flat STL/3MF model, and import to PrusaSlicer as a negative volume, then add a color change at the appropriate level to provide contrast. See my remix for some example logo designs in 3MF format with color changes and supports already configured for Mk3S. On the textured build plate, I've had very good luck with supports coming off cleanly, and creating an interesting textural contrast that's somewhat difficult to capture fully in photos, and looks much nicer in person.

Filament in the examples was (I think) Overture black PLA, and the copper and bronze were both Polyalchemy Elixir Silk PLA.

  • I believe I remember reading somewhere that Polyalchemy got bought by PrintedSolid for incorporation into their Jesse line of PLA… but that hasn't happened yet, which is why it's no longer available anywhere--the MatterHackers Silky Build Series PLA seems to be a good substitute.

I designed this in SolidWorks, with the intention of iterating on the design to include other types of cases (miniatures, notepads, rolling trays, phone holder, etc.) to also fit modularly, but I got tired of SolidWorks crashing, freezing, or arbitrarily deciding that my defined sketches were no longer fully defined…. I've since transitioned away from SW, but neglected to first export my original design files out of SLDPRT format before my license expired, so I'll probably need to jump through some minor hoops to pick this back up and continue design work--the existing state of it works perfectly well on its own, so I figured it was a good time to publish what I've already got.

The deskmat in the photos is the Archetype Kolkrabba in the limited run KAT Atlantis colorway.
