Originally made to hang a spool of packing paper underneath my workbench for easy access. This model is a very generic rod holder that I've found a couple other uses for since.

Hardware:
  • Rod - 3/4 inch dowel which is typically a little under 20mm in diameter. The fit is loose so 20mm rods should be fine.
  • Bracket screws - #8 x 3/4 inch pan head screws (~4.2mm diam).
  • Cap bolts - I wanted something that could be threaded on and off easy so I found M4 x 8mm threaded inserts for wood and built the cap around M4 x 8mm hex head bolts. The fit is loose and head diameters seem to vary considerably. Super glue helps.
Orientation:

I don't think there is a correct orientation for the rod holder. Typically one would want to print a “hook” on it's side to align the layers with the force. However, the rod hole would be weakened in that orientation. I decided to print it flat to avoid supports and trust in the layer adhesion of PETG and the power of heavy infill.
