The Open Source Watch Winder (OSWW) is an open source high quality, modular, watch winder. For $40*, you can build yourself a 3 watch, watch winder, with user-replaceable parts.

Key Features

  • Quiet belt drive
  • Bi-directional winding; winds for 3 minutes then pauses for 3 seconds. Change this in the code!
  • Modular! Build one powered unit and daisy chain unpowered units together.
  • Open Source - pull requests welcome
  • Minimal electronics / programming experience required
  • Easy to print

Supercharge your build with Winderoo!

Winderoo is open source firmware, which adds the following:

  • Controllable via web GUI over local mDNS (winderoo.local) or via Home Assistant (requires MQTT)
  • Web UI is fully translated into 5 languages (more are welcome!)
  • Settable RPD (rotations per day) between 100 - 960rpd
  • Single direction (clockwise / anti-clockwise) or bi-directional winding.
  • Settable start time. Have it wind while you're asleep, or while you're away, or anytime for that matter!
  • Manual cycle start / stop.
  • 3 seconds of rest after 3 minutes of rotation, in every mode.
  • Estimated cycle duration (how long it'll take to wind your watch).
  • Cycle progress display (how far along the current winding routine is).
  • Software or optional physical button to trigger ON/OFF state, so you can disable the winder completely.
  • Simple setup. Flash the firmware and File System with a few clicks, then connect your phone (or other device) to the winder's setup wifi network & add it to your home network.
  • There's no app required! You control it from a web browser.
  • Minimal electronics / programming experience required

Note: Winderoo has a separate set of hardware requirements to this project, OSWW, and has much more complex firmware flashing requirements. If in doubt, stick with the base firmware provided in OSWW's repository.

Some general printing advice:

  1. The following models will require support:
    • STRUCT_mid_plate
    • watch_mount
  2. The model is designed to be printed with PLA, therefore tolerances are spec'd for that
    • Tolerances are between 0.1 - 0.2mm
  3. Print with 25% infill
    • This will the increase overall rigidity of the model, especially when dealing with the motor's torque.
    • This will also give you a "premium feeling" product.
  4. If your printer has a tendency elephant foot, you'll need to file down some of the pieces.
    • For example, the mounting_dowel's outter lip will need to be filed down so the mounting_dowel_sleeve can easily slip over it.

Most importantly, have fun!
