I love the winder designed by Miklos Kiszely! I think it's awesome and more than well done. This is a slight remix of the target spool base to make it modular, it also replaces the 88 and 39 axis for the worm gear with a setup I preferred.

The main reason I did this is I preferred getting the bearing slots printed in the flat orientation. So, doing this setup unfortunately does need support on the bearing houses, but it's a minor grievance.

The smaller pegs may be slightly large for the front, lower arms that hold the worm gear. so may need to scale those down a bit at this time. Also, keep in mind you need to place the models on the correct face.

I also changed the worm gear rod. One thing I'm not a fan of in the main model is that all the axis/rods are fully round. I prefer printing them with a flat base (and maybe top), so will add those to this in a bit. For now, the work gear rod is full length and moves the wobble point closer to the 608 bearings instead of right at the worm gear where you really want all that pressure.

Give it a go, I found I didn't need any glue really, and if a piece breaks I don't feel like I need to throw out the whole base (like in one of the pics, as the pegs for the smaller ones may be too large). So not gluing makes it easier to do that, but again, if you need that go ahead. I didn't find any huge issues with it.

if you're replacing the worm gear horizontal axis (note, the picture is a older version slightly off center):

  • Get rid of 39mm axis
  • Get rid of 88mm axis
  • Print 2x hex couplers
  • Install the worm gear to the rod first
  • Note the design on the top of the rod, that's the side to slide the worm gear over
  • Then Install from right to left
  • I matched the measurements as best I could from the original design, but even then I had to use a clamp to get things together (didn't wanna hammer stuff, too loud), so I still used a clamp to press fit things here. So however you got stuff to fit before, do the same here is my point.

Good luck and thanks again to Miklos Kiszel for the original design and hard work!
