Simple snap cap design inspired by Dboyds. I had some trouble with sizing and also made a slight modification. I am proposing the use of this snap cap in connection with an established firearms course related to my employment. With my limited knowledge combined with an overabundance of caution, a blow-through hole has been added in the event that (for whatever reason) the round becomes detached from the casing and inside the barrel but the casing is still ejected in an attempt to not cause a squib.
I am completely comfortable with this being unnecessary but it made me feel more comfortable using the item in a live fire scenario when someone ELSE is shooting something I have manufactured.
I have slightly reduced the primer height for my own prints and personally print them out of TPU for added durability. I have not modified the primer file height because your individual casings may differ.
Finally, I have created a simple depriming jig that I have used to easily deprime about 50 rounds. I recommend placing the jig on a towel and using a small punch, however, I use a small Torx bit that came with a miniature screwdriver kit. ymmv
NOTE: I had a slight elephant's foot when printing this, I think due to the small print area of the base. I simply trimmed with a pair of diagonal cutters.
NOTE2: Dboyds STL was not used in this project, I simply rebuilt his concept on a model of a 9mm round.
EDIT: Forgot to include the primer. https://www.printables.com/model/322073-small-primers-for-homemade-snap-caps-or-dummy-roun
Shout out to AZJake for the primer design. I recommend printing in TPU
Shout out to Dboyds for the original concept. I have not done anything special here.
The author remixed this model.
