This is the box made for an arduino project that you can use to take care of your plantswhile you are away, you will find this model in a collection with some plant pots if you want to print those.
If you care to try to make this Arduino project yourself, you will need some extra parts, those beeing:
- Obviously, an arduino board
- an LCD screen (to display information)
- soil moisture sensors, 1 or more, please consider the fact that an arduino UNO board only has 5 Analog pins so any more than 5 sensors will not be possible without proper parts (most moisture sensors I've seen online have 2 parts, I have those)
- pumps, the same number as humidity sensors
- Plastic tubes that can mount onto the pumps
- relays, you need to have relays to control the pumps
- a lot of cables
- breadboard
- air temperature and air moisture sensor (optional)
Printing advice:
- Please take into consideration the fact that PLA is not heat resistent, nor UV resistent, so if you plan to keep it outdoors print with the appropriate material. I guess that painting PLA would also work but I am not sure. Do not leave it in the rain!
- use a brim so the edges are nice and flat.
- If you have an LCD screen that can attach directly to the Arduino board, please keep in mind that the LCD screen uses some of the arduino pins for its functionalities so do not connect a sensor with a pin that the LCD screen uses or it might produce unwanted behaviour.
- I printed mine with 0.3 mm, but you could go higher, or lower.
- The front gap is made so that an LCD screen should fit perfectly in there, pay attention to this when modifying scale.
Use:
- Plug the soil moisture sensors into dry soil, and you will get a certain value, keep it in mind. Then water the plant and see how the displayed value changes. Once your soil is at optimum moisture for the plant, use the displayed value of the sensor as an indicator for when your plant needs to be watered.
- Every component, except the pump(s) should be put in the compartment with the gap for the LCD screen, the pumps should be pun in the other one (obviously).
- Pour water into the compartment with the pumps and pay attention that you don't spill water in the other container.
Documentation about how to connect all the parts should be found online, but if you have any problems because you can't find the needed documentation or the necessary source code you can comment on this model and I will try to respond.
