Who here has a bunch of Altoid tins? Yeah, me too!

Many of us makers and hobbyists have a plethora of old Altoid tins just sitting around; waiting to be used. I love the idea of repurposing them. Using one to carry around filament swatches seems like a great use. While I was looking for a solution, I found Dimension Cubed's Altoid Tin Swatch/Box. Love it!

For my non travel-size filament swatch needs I've been using Extrutim's Filament Color Swatch's. I really like the different layer thickness steps to show how light shines through the materials.

I wanted the best of both worlds, thus I decided to merge these two great swatch examples.

I've been printing these at .2mm layer height and they fit the tin insert perfectly!

Each step has a thickness of .4mm, so if you print at .2mm layer height the steps will be .4mm, .8mm, 1.2mm, 1.6mm, and 2mm.

I've also included “Blank” and “Framed” versions depending on what you'd like.

I hope that you find this as useful as I have. Have a great day!

Steps to achieve Altoid box filament swatch success:
  1. Acquire an Altoids tin.
  2. Print out the Dimension Cubed Altoid Tin Box.
  3. Print this swatch for each of your filament colors.
  4. ???
  5. Profit.

NOTE: These swatches may be difficult to remove if you fill up the Swatch/Box to capacity. You could always insert one in every other slot.

Enjoy my work?

I'd love to see your prints and hear about your builds. Feedback is a gift!
