I liked the design of White_Panters ruler stop from Thingiverse. But since my ruler was really thin at only 0.75 mm thickness, his design just did not clamp it.

So I redesigned it from scratch in SolidWorks, while copying his style. I also upgraded to a bigger screw and put the nut in the bottom. So you can now tighten the screw by hand. And with that provided cap, it is even much easier now.

This actual 3MF-File is for a ruler 24.6 mm x 0.75 mm and one for a ruler 29.7 mm wide. Even without the screw it clamps nicely.

SolidWorks-File is included, so you can configure the part to your specific ruler. Or you may ask me to make a specific version.

I just added a cap, which is to be pressed on the head of a standard M5 hex head. Such a head should have a diameter of about 8.4 mm.

I have first published this design on my Thingiverse Account.

You need:

  • M5 x 20 hex socket screw
  • M5 nut to be pressed in at the bottom
  • Washer 10x1 mm to be pressed in on top

Printing setup

  • Print it with the flat side on the printer bed. No support needed.
  • I reccomend using raft, as I had several failures with the smal lip when trying without.
  • Layer hight 0.2 mm
  • at least 3 perimeters/shells
  • low infill (10%)

for the cap

Orient the hole on the bed. It is designed to be printed hollow and without support! So you will get a nice finished top.

  • Do not use support
  • print with raft.
  • Layer hight 0.2 mm
  • 5 perimeters/shells
  • print with PETG, so it will be somewhat elastic for the pressfit. PLA might crack.
