Originally designed to attach to the bottom of painting frame to hold the bottom firm to the wall when wind blows. It also carries some of the weight of the painting and frame.
The female part starts originally a little wider than the male part dimensions, but ends up narrower so as to hold the male part. This helps with alignment and original positioning (hence the ‘tolerant’ in the name).
The male part of the cleat is mounted to one part (e.g., the wall) and the female part is mounted to the other part (e.g., painting frame). Both parts have countersunk holes for the mounting screws, which must be screwed flush to prevent interference to the sliding parts.
The cadquery script makes it easy to recalculate to new dimensions.
