Ambiano Food Dehydrator Filament Drying Adapter Ring - Cardboard version

I did not want to wait 10h of print time and use 400g of filament just for a test. So I came up with this idea.

The original model inspired me to do this cardboard mod. I just wanted to test if drying ASA is possible with a dehydrator (yes it is possible 6h @70°C) so I created this cardboard ring.

Model files: The attached STL is just a cube as a dummy because you can only publish a model with a 3D file attached.

Bill of material:

  • 1-2 pieces of cardboard fitting in the slots on the side
  • Small left over of cardboard
  • Masking tape
  • Dryer rack (middle piece recommended so you can still sue the dryer for something else)
  • 10-15min of time

How to install:

  • Cut the card board to size
    • Length according to your dryer, with 30-50 mm overlap
    • Height according to your spool thickness
  • Roll cardboard around a thin cylinder to preform it, e.g. with a rolling pin.
  • Insert the 1-2 rolled cardboard pieces in to the dryer rack slots.
  • Fixate the pieces with some masking tape
  • Now seal the joint between the cardboard and dryer rack with masking tape
  • Seal the middle hole of the dryer rack to distribute the air to the sides.
  • Make some spaces from masking tape and cardboard left overs.
  • Put spool in close the lid and dry the filament.

I made a cheap rip off of this model with some cardboard and some masking tape.
