I found this Ugrinsky style windmill on thingiverse (Yuck! I know…) but I didnt find the parts supplied that useful apart from the blade design, which is awesome.
I made some simple brackets and other printed parts needed to experiment with this blade design using 8mm rods and a NEMA 17 motor as alternator.
I glued together the turbine parts using CA glue.
I used herringbone gears for the alternator, which kind of works but I probably need to design a better system. I plan on experimenting with DIY alternators and different charge circuits on this platform, so stay tuned for more details :-)
I used commonly available materials such as 608RS bearings, 8mm threaded rods, 8mm nuts and a few pieces of 1.85mm filament (to retain the bearings)
Use the parts if you like… or dont - Its up to you! I just wanted to share this cool project.
In wind it generates enough power to light up an LED strip and probably more with a better alternator.
