I really like this. Even though i am a day late and a dollar short, i would do this y axis frame.
What i ended up doing was the original prusa i3 y axis rework from the reprap site and thingiverse

So far it has done wonders for all the layer shifting.
My current anet build is 3d printing the AM8 extrusions. The frame is done and so far its really stable

Victor/Logan's design defiantly helps by removing those flexible front plates and, had I been making the machine for my own use, I probably would have stuck with that design. As it was though, I was rebuilding this printer for a paying friend so I wanted it to look a bit more professional and had the extrusions on hand anyway. Similar situation for my A8 hotend design.
