My daughter loves playing chess, but the magnificent pieces by NTX9 often fall out the original box when she tries to relocate.
Therefor I made a remix that allows for a lid to slide in front of the pieces. The lid is of course based on the pieces themselves, but with added supports for printing purposes.
The box itself is also modular. The same sliding mechanism is in place at the bottom so you can add 2 (or more) boxes together.
It fits a Mini! Important information about the model size.
This model has been designed to fit a Prusa Mini with a heatbed of 18 x 18cm. This requires the pieces of the organic chess set to be printed at 85% since the source of this remix is 20 cm x 20 cm (at 100%).
If you want to use this box for the original set (at 100%) print this box scaled up to 117.65%!
How to print
Note about supports and brim
I've had issues with the extruded slides where the smallest piece (outside) would detach from the print plate and warp upwards. Prints with supports in the slide (without brim) or with a 2mm brim seems to be working. Use what you think works best on your machine!
Manually adding a rectangle in PrusaSlicer to use as a brim is also a possibility but I haven't used it personally.

Brim of 2mm. The rest of the box/lid doesn't really need the brim though. | A (snug) support also helped prevent warping. You need to clean the supports out thoroughly if you want a smooth slide. |
Tolerances
Note that I've designed the tolerances off the slide to work on my machine (a Prusa mini). Since my printbed is only 180mm, my prints are scaled down to 85% off the original (5% extra to account for brim)!
Please comment with constructive feedback how the tolerances are if you print it at full scale.
