Meet your new butterfly army. Print this guy out and then print some more (he'd appreciate a few friends), suspend them above your precious vegetables and they will protect them from the scourge of the evil caterpillar horde. Learn about their dastardly plans here(Wikipedia).
This is model is of a male Pieris rapae, known by many as Cabbage Moth, Cabbage Butterfly, Small White and others know him as Oswald.
Prints in three parts and press-fits together. Designed for 0.4mm nozzle with 0.2 layer height.
The spots on the wings can be printed in a different colour as they protrude above the rest of the model.
The print files are setup for PLA, but since it is going outside, really this is best printed in PETG or some more exotic material. Where I live the sun can be fierce and PLA will never survive our summers.
Dimensions when assembled: 93mm x 59mm.
Designed in FreeCAD! I have included the FreeCAD file for your amusement, it is not neat and organised as I'd like it to be, but hey mess and chaos is part of the artistic process. Right?!
Included STEP 3MF and gcode files as well. The gcode for the wings includes a pause to change colours.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
