I found the “Spindle Wool” by efrost on Thingiverse. It was a good model both the size of the spindle and the STL file provided were problematic. So I designed this Spindle from the ground up in Fusion 360. I made this one more to scale (220 mm tall. 65 mm Diameter at the largest part) for a drop spindle, added a Hook at the top of the spindle for convenience and saved the STL file separately for ease of printing parts with different print settings (which is pretty important for this model to work properly).
Top: 5-15%
Screws: 70%
Mid: 5%-25% Depending on the desired weight for the spindle (if you need more weight it might give the spindle more stability by just increasing the wall count)
Bottom: 5-15%
Top: 4
Screws: 4-5
Mid: 4-6 Depending on the desired weight for the spindle
Bottom: 3-4
The only support needed is for the hook on the top
I've included an image to show the best orientation for the parts to be printed.
you can glue The Top, Middle, and Bottom together with super glue if you want. If you use something less permanent like a glue stick you can disassemble it later and print a new Middle to change the weight of the Spindle instead of having to print a whole new one for lighter or heavier yarn.
The author remixed this model.
