When I was a kid, we used traps almost identical to this to catch and domesticate song birds in Greece. Those traps were made with scrap bits of wood and either wire or souvlaki sticks for the bars. I realized I could recreate this as a 3d Printable item that could be used to humanely catch and release birds trapped in places like big box stores, or even a person's garage. Just put some bird seed in the bottom, set the trap, and leave the area.

Updated 25/2/2023: Uploaded new version of the Main part of cage, the only change is having made the corners square to provide additional overall strength.

When printing the lid, the file BirdTrapLidSupport should be printed using per model settings to print as a support, this is the only part that needs support of any kind; all other parts are designed to not require support. To align it, with Lid placed centered on build plate, move support to -100 X and -2 Y (in Cura anyway). Note also that during assembly you will need to cut the horizontal part of the bars below the hinge in order to insert the perch. Just about any ¾" - 1" spring will work, I tried it with several salvaged springs, but the one in the pictures is this Extension Spring I purchased on Amazon just so I had an easy to find one that works too share with the model.

Here is a demo of the trap in action, I used one of my cats toy birds, so no real birds were traumatized in the testing:
