Why?

I wanted to use a high quality IEC socket including a double fuse and a capacity to carry 10amps of load (VCore 3.1 500). Furthermore I don't like exposed mains wires inside the printer.

Features:

  • Fixing the IEC socket in a “clamping” way into the side panel, thus preventing it to escape in any direction.
  • Fits any panel thickness
  • Covered LAN Socket with an oh so fancy RatRigCornerPlate-pattern
  • Mains wiring protection for your shocking needs… Comes in two versions! Depending on the available depth of your electronics bay, it may be necessary to print the narrow version and fix it only with one M3 screw to the socket plate. It still gives a quite stable connection (see photographs of my build in progress…)

Requirements / Mounting:

  • Use any material you like, simply doesn't matter, for the end plug I recommend a TPU with a hardness of 98A or higher.
  • You have to widen the standard IEC socket hole that comes cut with your side panel (standard RatRiG DXF scheme) using your trusty Dremel or anything you like. Don't be concerned, rough edges will be covered by the plate. Use the provided cutting jig to mark the needed outlines onto the panel.
  • You have to drill two additional M3 holes for the lateral fixation of the socket and plate
  • The standard 3 top/bottom screw holes do fit into the top and bottom holes of the cover plate
  • Insert some standard M3 heat inserts (I used 4.6x4x5) into the mains covering sleeve
  • Clamp everything together with M3 screws of your choice, depending on the thickness of your side panels you will need something between M3x12 up to M3x16

Take care, that your socket, the sockets fuse AND the integrated switch match your needed current! (That's why I chose the Schaffner…)

Hope you like it, comments and feedback always appreciated :-)
