This is a holder for three OLED displays. The displays are lined up next to each there and you can generate graphics that go across all three displays (this takes some clever software but it is certainly doable).
The spacing of the displays was set up so that the pins would plug directly into a solderless breadboard. As a result there is a slight vertical gap between displays. This isn't a huge deal when you have a diffuser over the displays (just white paper works) but you can move them closer together to get a more seamless display.
These happen to be the "2 color" (top yellow, bottom blue) 128 x 64 displays, you could use single color displays as well. Watch my web site for an article on driving them (robotics.mcmanis.com).
The holes for the hold down are sized for #4-40 x 1/4" machine screws. M3 x 5 machine screws would work here as well.
