Game Boy cartridge case

A case for normal Game Boy / Game Boy Color game cartridges. The dimensions are taken from the standard plastic cartridges that you can buy.

New model!!:

• Hinge mechanism is print in place! After printing open and close a few times for the hinge to work smooth.

Original model:

• Keep in mind that the designed hinge mechanism is prone to fail over time. 

Dimensions

The standard dimensions of the print fit the Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges. By adjusting the scaling of the original case model in PrusaSlicer the print can be adapted to Game Boy Advance  cartridges as well. The following dimensions will do the trick:

• X 92
• Y 62
• Z 100

Print Settings

Printer:

Supports: 

Yes for the closing mechanism you need some support.

SuperSlicer:

Resolution:

0.15 mm layer height → can be increased to 0.2 mm

Perimeter:

3 → This avoids unnecessary infill movements

Infill: 

10 % → I guess 5% is also fine

Slicing:

Slice gap closing radius: 0.0001 → This one is important otherwise the hinge will just fuse into one piece

Filament: 

PLA

Notes:

Model without print-in-place hinge:

• The layer hight should be 0.2 for the hinge part to work after bridging one layer over the gap of the case halfs.
• Bridging angle needs to be set to 0º for the hinge to work.

Post-Printing

If the hinge part won't fold as desired close the case and then with a lighter carefully heat that one bridging layer until it folds the right way.
