Add a pole bird to your patio umbrella stand to keep the water out! It caps the pole when your umbrella is put away.
The assembly consists of a bird, a bolt and a cap that locks into the dimple holes of the patio umbrella stand.
You can add any model to the top of your umbrella stand using this procedure.
The birds that I used can be found on Thingiverse.com. They have been scanned by Paul Moews. You will find mamabird.stl , bird1.stl and bird4.stl .
The connecting bolt is from RevK's , ISO/UTS thread OpenScad Library. The bolt is separated out of the M10NutBolt.stl set and saved as M10Bolt.stl. Then it is scaled up 108% to make M10Boltx108.stl.
The M10Boltx108.stl file is inserted as a negative volume and placed at the base of the bird model using the Prusa Slicer.
The pole cap piece is designed in OpenScad and can be modified for your purposes, depending on the dimple hole diameter and length of the top of the pole to the center of the dimple. Here is a reference drawing for the main variables.
Here is a reference drawing for the other design variables.
The slide in cap is printed in PETG (0.2mm/layer, 20% gyroid fill) while the birds were printed in PLA since I have a larger colour selection.
