Inspired by the recent push by Prusa research to design and manufacture useful items in the fight against coronavirus, I thought I would share some items I designed and use regularly for research in my lab.
This was designed so that it fits on the prusa mini print bed.
The current version has a modified grip at the front to improve the ease of opening.
I strongly recommend printing in PETG since this can be wiped down and cleaned with lab cleaning reagents such as 70% ethanol. However, I have printed some in PLA and they also seem to work well.
This should also work well if you have a microscope at home and would like to store some of your slides flat for easy access.
Assembly:
The hinge for the lid and the bottom can be secured by simply inserting a 1.75 mm filament through the entire length of the hinge. It can be held in place by simply melting the ends of the filament.
I use 6, 3mm x 1mm magnets to hold it shut. While not essential, they do ensure that your slides remain secured.
Please check out my other designs including:
A smaller 2 slide immunohistochemistry case:

A larger 8 slide immunohistochemistry case:

While I hope that this case may be useful for other researchers, I am happy to take suggestions on future modifications and improvements. Please comment below or send me a private message and I will do my best, especially if you are currently working on coronavirus related research.
