FCS Infill Chip

The Filament Color System (FCS for short) allows you to produce infill reference chips for materials you print.

Features

1. Easily determine infill used with past prints. Each chip has the infill debossed onto the top face.
2. Each chip is 48.2mm x 48.2mm x 2mm.
3. Each chip is 4g of material. Minimal material used and takes ~30min to print.
4. Two thicknesses allow you to get a sense of opacity of each color.
5. 4mm hole allows chips to be attached to a keychain or piece of string forming a color pallete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why not use one of the dozens of material chips already on printables/thang/thingiverse?

I wanted each chip to have sufficient information to determine the specific material and reorder it. This is possible by having both the debossed brand and material on each chip. I wasnt able to find a collection of chips elsewhere that had this.

Why dont the chips have the color debossed into them?

Primarily because that would result in a magnitude more files to manage and require scrapping alot more data.

Secondly, most people can see the color of each chip. So outside of a few rare cases where a single brand has 2 similair colors of the same material, it shouldnt be an issue.

Print instructions

All models should be sliced with your preferred material settings, 10% infill, no supports. Each chip has two bodies, the middle body should have its infill adjusted as needed and remove all top/bottom layers. Print Settings → Infill → Top/Bottom Fill Pattern. See the 3mf group files for an example
