This articulated lens hood blocks out reflection, when taking pictures through glass.  Great for observation deck and aquariums.

It allows the lens to tilt ±46º in any direction.  The hood has an an angle of view of 28º and an aperture of 27mm.  It is designed to work with the Olympus 45mm F1.8 lens wide open (angle of view 27º and aperture of 25mm).  It will also work well with longer lenses.

Other Design Features

  • Increase camera stability, by allowing you to push the lens against the glass.  The large flat surface of the hood reduce slipping on the glass.  (I am looking at adding some thin foam on the rim to further increase traction on glass).
  • Complete blockage of reflected light.  The rigid hood sits perfectly against the glass surface (unlike flexible hoods, which requires an extra pair of hands to push the flexible rim against the glass).
  • Compact.  It is smaller than Lens Skirt and Silicon Anti-Reflection Hoods.  The sections stacks inside each other, to reduce the size for storage.
  • Easy to use.  It's quicker to setup than Lens Skirt.  And it doesn't flop like Silicon Anti-Reflection Hoods.
  • The inner cone ensures that none of the free moving sections blocks any part of the picture.

Printing Notes

Depending on the printing material, section 4 & 5 may require support for shallower overhangs.

Depending on the material shrinkage, you may need to scale the model for a perfect fitting thread.  Also try printing in 0.1 layer height.

You can roughen the interior surface with some sand paper, to reduce internal reflection (however, you are likely to get more reflection from the front of your lens).

Assembly Notes

The hood has a 52mm thread to attach to your lens.  But the plastic thread wears out easily; it is recommended that you glue the hood to a step-up ring and then use the step-up ring to attach to your lens.
