Hello,
It is a nice idea so I have made it. It works much better than the original MK3 Y axis system. Nevertheless, I was not completely satisfied because impossibility to adjust it completely. The movement was not smooth fully.
So I have done my own remix of it. I have attached it here. (edited)
As someone who runs KalleKnall's original linear rail system with basically a stock Y belt system (I have a stepper dampener and some washers so the stepper doesn't touch the frame) - I was interested in how your remix is much quieter - i.e. what was making noise for you before? I have no noise I can perceive from the linear rails - fans and my extruder stepper are the only sources. Also, wondering what aspect of print quality improved?
I think the noise was coming from the Frog. The biggest problem I had with the original was the mounting system for the carriages only having 2 mounts per carriage which had too much play once mounted IMO. That was easily solved by drilling some extra holes in the Frog and switching from a MGN12H to MGN12C on the right side. The system needs a "soft side" with printed mounts either under the rails as KalleKnall's system or on top of the carriages in my system. I opted for the soft side to be between the carriages and the Frog. My reason was that more hard surface was in direct contact with the rails directly mounted to the extrusions which in theory should reduce vibrations and thus noise. To be honest the difference in noise is really minimal but I do have better prints and zero crashing. On the previous system I was getting crashes about every 10th print, which could have been user error on my part. As far as the calibration I opted for having the calibration stop be the Y motor mount against the Frog rather than having the Left MGN12C banging into the backstop, those carriages are robust but I doubt they were designed to take lateral impact on a regular basis.
I also like the clean look of this system, all you see is the rails after the guides are removed, obviously just an aesthetic thing with no functional value. (edited)
Hi can we get links to the parts need for this upgrade. Many thanks
