Rota - Roman Tic-Tac-Toe Variant

This is "Rota" - it is similar to tic tac toe, but there is more strategy, and it (almost) never ends up in a draw.

Print Notes:

  • You need to print 6 of the “Rota Piece,” 3 in one color, and 3 in another color.
  • You need to print 1 “Octo Board”
  • You need to print 1 “Octo Ring.” These pieces press fit into the board. They shouldn't take too much effort. If you need to, you could scale it down by a percent or two.

How to Play:   It is similar to tic tac toe in that the goal is to get 3 of your pieces in a row. At the start of the game, both players take turns placing pieces on to one of the nine circles on the board (circles in octo ring file that are press fit onto the board). Once all of each player's pieces are down, they then start moving one piece one space on the board, still with the intention of getting 3 in a row. The lines and arcs in the octo ring file highlight where you can move on your turn. Your 3 in a row must be consecutive pieces (obvious). You can get a straight 3 in a row that goes through the center circle, or you can get a curved 3 in a row with all your pieces in a (curved) line on the outer circles.

I hope that makes sense… it's a lot of fun to play, and it kind of twists your mind at first while you're getting used to it. Really cool game, really fun to model.
