Description

PDF

A 3D printable Tenting Puck that let's you mount a split keyboard on a Tripod that uses the standardized 1/4" mounting screw.

This model was directly inspired by the SplitKB Tenting Puck. Their aluminium version is splendid. This model here simply serves as a cheap (temporary) DIY solution. If you like it please consider buying the premium version on SplitKB.

Important: the diameter of this Tenting Puck is slightly bigger than the original one. It may not fit on keyboard cases using the standardized cutout but works fine on any PCB.

Instructions

Choose your preferred model and ..

  1. Print the Tenting Puck in the correct orientation

Note: it is recommended to use M2 Heat Inserts (OD= 3mm, L=3mm) for the 4 mounting points on the puck since printed threads in that size may wear out.

  2. If you plan on using Heat Inserts be sure to not push them in too hard because it may deform the anchor points

Variants

There are two models.

  1. Flat (recommended): The flat version of the model has no engraving on the top surface. This is an easy print and the recommended choice.

  2. Engraving: The one illustrated in the pictures has engravings on the top surface. This just serves as a cosmetic and you won't even see it if its mounted.

If you do want to print it however, you should enable ironing in your prefered slicer for a smooth surface finish. I used a modifier box in PrusaSlicer to only iron one surface area. The .mf3 file is provided.

Technical Detail

The tenting puck is similar in size as the original one BUT has a bigger diameter.

  • Height: 4.6mm
  • Diameter: 43.3mm

The 1/4" thread for the tripod is printed due to the sole reason that threaded heat inserts in that size are rather hard to find and costly.

Note: despite the tripod thread being printed it should hold fairly well. Tolerances have been accounted for and if your 3D printer is calibrated it should print relatively easy.

Print Settings

  • Infill: 15-20% Gyroid
  • Perimeters: 3
  • Layer height: 0.2mm
  • Supports: none

Inspiration

As mentioned above this is simply a cheap DIY version of the original SplitKB Tenting Puck. If you like the puck then be sure to check their aluminium version out. It's awesome.
