I designed this mounting bracket to hold a Triangle Labs filament runout sensor on the top extrusion of an Ender 3.

I previously had a BTT smart filament sensor on this printer but decided to move it to my Voron V2 and replace it with a simple sensor from Triangle Labs. The spool mounting hasn't changed from my previous sensor so you can look there for the spool mounting bracket.

Hardware Required

  • M3 x 12mm bolt (top of filament sensor)
  • M3 x 20mm bolt (bottom of filament sensor)
  • 2x M3 washers (bolts through filament sensor)
  • M3 x 10mm bolt (top of bracket)
  • 2x M3 hammerhead nuts (top of bracket and bottom of sensor)
  • M3 x 4mm x5mm heatset insert (top of filament sensor)

Alternate version uses an M3 nut and a longer bolt (16-20mm) on the top in place of the heatset insert.

Printing Instructions

Print part flat on bed, no supports needed.

3 walls 20% infill should be fine.

Installation

  1. Inset the heatset insert with a soldering iron
  2. Attach the filament sensor to the bracket
  3. Place the hammerhead nut on the rear bolt and slide onto top extrusion
  4. Slide a hammerhead nut under the bracket and insert top bracket bolt
  5. Tighten the bolts into hammerhead nuts
  6. Wire up the runout sensor and configure in marlin/klipper following documentation for the sensor/mainboard/firmware
