WaveShare 4.2“ e-Paper case - symmetrical and without holes. It can hold up to a big 10000mAh LiPo battery and has a mounting point for a ESP32 - Lolin D32

For my projects I wanted to have a symmetrical case to mount my often used Waveshare e-Paper displays into. I found a lot of cases, but most of them had no symmetrical borders and a lot of them came with screw holes or other holes. So maybe not the cases i wanted to put on my wall or on my desk…

This case has the following features:

  • Symmetrical borders
  • The actual real used display area is shown to the user only. The borders and the circuit parts of the display are hidden
  • Small footprint: 120x100x19mm (WxHxD)
  • No screw holes all around the outside
  • No other holes outside that might disturb the view too
  • A lid that is a bit smaller so you cannot see it from the side directly when it is placed on a wall
  • The lid has a small wall hook hole for a short nail.
  • In case you do not want to put it on your wall the case can be placed on a desk without any other additional steps as well.
  • The lid clicks into place with 4 strong locking noses into the case and can be reopened if you need to recharge the battery. It is a bit tight but I wanted it to be this way
  • Space for a big 10000mAh battery as shown in the pictures. That powers the shown weather station project for about 2-3 years depending on your Wi-Fi signal strength and thanks to the very power efficient Lolin D32, so the case is not opened that often
  • In the lid there is a mounting point for a “Lolin D32”. You need very tiny 3x M2x5 screws
  • The display itself is secured in place with the 4 little round rings that are pressed on the 4 posts as shown in the pictures
  • Hint: On the lid i put some small rubber feet on to make it look a bit floating on the wall

Printing instructions:

  • I used the 0.2 speed profile and just turned the skirt off and set a 5mm brim
  • For the lid I used supports from the print bed, but I don’t think you really need them
  • The 4 rings werde printed without the brim.

Happy printing :)
