Leftover Container Tag Generator

Ever wonder what's in that leftover Tupperware container? And don't really want to pop the lid, except on what you are looking for? Me too.

So I designed this little tag to snap into the slot on the lid (for hanging the lids on a rack).

How I Designed This

This is my first real attempt to write an OpenSCAD program. There are no fancy filets, but the project is very simple and doesn't really need them. I also like the Customizer so you can very easily modify it to your needs.

How to Use the Generator

First, after opening the program, you need to make the Customizer visible. Under the Window menu, select Customizer or uncheck Hide Customizer.

When the Customizer is open, rotate all of the little triangles to open the various areas.

Then start making changes in the displayed items - it will live update to show your change. Cool!

You will see that you can change just about everything. I've setup limits for all of them so you shouldn't get too carried away. Here's some tips to consider:

• “StemWidth” is used to snap into the lid opening, you want a good fit but not so fat it warps the lid on install. 
• “Thickness” is also involved in the snap to the lid; don't exceed the lid opening.
• I found it easier to install the tag onto a lid before you close the container - turn it sideways - if “Thickness” is less than “StemWidth”, it will slide into the notch easier.
• You should not make the “FontSize” too small as it may not print well.
• The “LabelColor” has nothing to do with your print (set that in the slicer), it is only to aid you in visualizing your edits.
• You can make raised text for 2 color printing.
• I even tried recessed in 2 color.
• Keep some plain ones handy - you can use tape and a marker for quickies - my wife also uses her label maker.
